Khairi Shalabi presents us in this new comprehensive novel with yet another example of the Egyptian novelist’s obsession with recording history. The history as it actually happens, as people experience it , a challenge to the official history of so called great deeds of Egypt’s rulers. Mr. Shalabi even included Naguib Mahfouz and Tawfik al-Hakim in a scene in a café as part of the novel’s events. How delicious!

i would like to say that in all arab countries there are many big writers pretended ti give thoughts and ideas which are difficult to be understood, no transparent culture for example i am aware that their essays do not amount to a new theory of real democracy sufficient to the need.
Globalization means to them imperialisim. world-system nowadays to most of them is similar to (the complete war of the world) by H.Wells.
In any opinion it is early to continue writing about them during recent critical time.

This is probably the longest of Khairy shalaby’s works to date. After fifty books or so, this can only be a distillation of experience and wisdom gained from a long and full life watching people and dissecting Egypt’s social and political currents. To Arab World Books, an excellent choice as usual.

تتكرر في روايات هذه الأيام ظاهرة تستحق التنبيه وهو موضوع المراجعة خاصة عندما تكون الروايات كبيرة الحجم على هذا النحو فنجد مثلا أن الرواية تتضمن اشارة الى الدراسة في أكسفورد ومانشستر في لندن والمعروف طبعا أنهما في انجلترا وهذا مجرد مثال.

Zahrat al-Khoshkash is a beautiful flower called also the flower of hashisha which are extracted to get al-hashisha to be used by addicted people because it is one of the hypnotic agents, those addicted people suffering from psychiatric problems such as anxious ,severe depression and social-health problems. The abuse of it especially those whom are suffering from depressive hallucination may lead to violence behavior to others. In Iraq Hashisha introduced after the occupation by American troops obviously it will be dangerous if it is used by Militia men of terrorists to give them false courage leading to the feeling of different crimes.
I doubt that the government can reduce the trade of hashisha at the critical present situation.
Actually I have no chance to find another goal for this Zahrat !!

عجبتني هذه الرواية الثرية لروائي من أكبر كتابنا المعاصرين، ووجدت سرد تاريخ عائلة الشماشرجي هو سرد لتاريخ مصر يتسم بالشمول والدقة والرؤية المتعمقة وان كنت بصراحة وجدت هذا السرد مملا بشكل غير مناسب في بداية رواية طويلة كهذه.

Upon you Life leans, a dewan of poetry by the late Arab poet Mamdouh Udwan, is beautifully conceived and reads as such. Exploring everyday common emotions, these are good, well formed poems accessible and observant, creating a multi-faceted world which the poet relates to well as he develops each poem fully; nonetheless I felt that the longer poems dragged on needlessly in their midsections. The theme of the collection is one's own primary relationships: parents, marriage, children, growing up then getting old that raptures the heart and open the eyes wide. Mamdouh Udwan is in turns meditative and tragic and ultimately most open, as good artists by definition should be. These are poems of memory and loss, a testimony to the experience of having lived in the world and having cared about people.

This book is written almost entirely in free verse with only a few exceptions that were rhymed. Although the rhymed poem was pretty good, it demonstrated that in the twenty first century free verse is much more potent and much more accessible to the reader.

Death of Literature by Alvin Kernan as
beautifully crafted into Arabic by
Badereddin al-Deeb is a revelatory work
which seems not only a swan song to the
Anglo-Saxon written word but by association
it says that European order could no longer
hold. This book is a timely study of the
fascination of western writers in the demise
of God and religion as it has endured for
the past two centuries and thus it is very
relevant to us as the guardians of the holy
scriptures. The book as it turned out did
not withstand the passage of time and
therefore is not a great philosopher work.
However it still shows us as Arabs how to
begin to think and understand some of the
philosophical concepts of the Romantic
movement in English literature as was banded
out not only by some of the luminaries of
western culture but by the moral corruption
of the west's Nation State system. The book
plunges us straight into a moral dilemma of
Who is The Above, God or the Democratic
State? In inviting the reader to consider
some of the big questions of literature, the
book develops the critical, inquiring
attitude that good literature most be
accessible and does not have to be
intimidating. After I had finished reading
the book I was left with the too many
questions to ask of myself - What is the
true value of a human being as separate from
other forms of life? What does freewill
mean? Is literature simply a matter of
reading the famous works of the past? Why do
we need religion? What are good and evil in
these permissive times? Along the way, I was
also introduced to some of the greatest
thinkers of the English language over the
past two hundred years.

Structuralism, post
structuralism and deconstruction and the
likes of Foucault and Derrida actually make
sense in the context of the evolution of
western society. However the application of
their theories to Egyptian literary
production was catastrophic, this trend
culminated in the writing of the 1990s which
actually led to the irrelevance of authors
and their work and not just their
theoretical interpretations.

revolution. In reality literature is as
ancient as human civilisation as manifested
in our rich oral tradition and art is

و لا عزاء لموت الأدب العربى !! أن موت الأدب العربى فى بلادنا العربية ليست قضية مستحدثة و ليست رهن اللحظة و لكن الأدب العربى قرر الانتحار منذ عقود طويلة بدءا من العهد الستينى الذى وأد نمو الأدب العربى حتى احتضرت أخيرا فى ذلك العهد الحالى و ما نراه الان على ساحة الأدب العربى هو سكرات الموت و صحوة بعد الموت ان جاز هذا التعبير , تبيعيات و تداعيات طبيعية لموت الأدب العربى فلا عزاء للأدب العربى فى موته الحالى الغير مشرف على الأطلاق يتصور الكثيرون أن موت الأدب العربى مرتهن بظهور الفضائيات و نمو العصر المعلوماتى المرئى و لكن الغربى أبو التكنولوجيا الرقمية و مخترعها لازال يكن الكثير من التقدير و الاحترام لقيمة الكتاب و لازال يعلى من شأن أدبه الغربى و لكننا فى أوطاننا العربية التى تزخر بكل عجائب الدنيا التى تعدت العجائب السبعة إلى عجائب لا منتهية الحصر فأن الأدب العربى قد استقالته و قرر الانتحار بدون شرف أو احتفاليه تليق بموته و لا يجب أن رنجع ذلك لقصور فى جمهور القارئين و لا تغريب الكتاب فى كتابتهم لا و ضايع المعنى و اضمحلال المضمون فى ظل ظهور الشكل و لا كل تلك السفسطة النقدية العربية التى هى أفراز سىء لموت الأدب العربى و مسببات انقطاع التواصل بين الحركة الأدبية العربية و جمهور القراء هى تراكمات لنقد سفسطائى جدلى افتعله جمهور النقاد و بعض الأدباء ذات الأدب القزمى مسطح النشأة و التكوين الأدبى و لكنه نتيجه لمسببات أعمق و أكثر تعايشا مع أرض الواقع فى ظل سيطرة نظرية العباطة على كافة نواحى حياتنا العربية التى برعت انظمتنا العربية فى أفرازها يمكننا أن نحيل إليها كل اسباب الفشل و موت الأدب العربى يمكنك أن تدرك أن آخر تواصل لجمهور القراء مع الأدب العربى يقف عند حد عنوانين رئيسية أخذت حظها فى الظهور و تجمدت و تجمد معها جمهور القراء و اصبحت بضاعة أدبية مستهلكة على صفحات الكتب كانت لها الحظ من الرواج حتى انقضت و ذهبت ريحها فى هذين العقدين الأخيرين و انقطعن معرفة الجمهور مع أجيال الأدباء الذين ظهروا بعد الجيل الأدبى الأول أمثال يوسف أدريس و أحسان عبد القدوس و توفيق الحكيم و نجيب محفوظ و غيرهم مما لا تسعهم الذاكرة و تحولوا فى أدبنا العربى ألى تابوه مقدس فقد شرعيته من الداخلو تآكل حتى أنصرف عنه أيضا جمهرو القراء و قرر أدباء العصر الستينى و السبعينى و الثمانينى و التسعينى و الألفينى الأن المضى قدماف ى عالم وازى لعالم الواقع العربى غير مكترثني بهذا النقطاع فى التواصل فى ظل هيمنة ثاقفة العباطة و التحطيم الابداعى و كسر الأرجل و شنق المواهب و أخضاع العملية الأدبية لحسابات المحسوبية و الوثب فوق روؤس الابداع الحقيقية لتحقيق مكاسب براجماتية خالية من اى قشرة أدبية حقيقية فظهر أقزام الأدب كما أطلق عليهم الكاتب الراحل محمد مستجاب و ظهر محمد حافظ رجب ليطلق صيحة نحن جيل بلا أساتذة و أقول نحن تحولنا إلى بناء غير شرعين للأدب و كأننا جيل سفاح قبل هيمنة العباطة التى اطلقتها الانظمة العربية المعاصرة و قبلنا بسيادة طبقة العبطيين فى ظل ضمور أى فكرة تنويرية فخرجت كتابات تترجم فعل العمل الأدبى لمجرد أرقام مبيعات و كتبات مطروحة فى السوق تروج لمبدأ خالف تعرف فظهر على سطح الحركة الأدبية أعمال وليمة لاعشاب البحر لحيدر حيدر ذلك الكاتب السورى لتحدث فرقعة أدبية أفرغت من المضمون فى ظل اللعب على منشتات الصحف الصحراء و اللعب على خبر الرجل الذى عض كلب فى مقابل أنزواء لما عض الكلب الرجل و ظهر أحمد الشهواى يطرح كتابة صفراء أمساها الوصايا العشر فى عشق النساء مضمنا لحتواه الأدبى الذى هو مفرغ من كل معنى أدبى فى ظل صب سياقات قرآنية و أحاديث نبوية لجلب الشهرة و اللعب على موضة الفرقعات الأدبية و الشهرة السطحية فتحول الكتاب بذلك إلى شرائط كاسيت تخدم على موسم طرحها و تتآكل بعد نزول شريط آخر يخدم على الموسم القادم و حسبنا لك من الشهرة و العمل الأدبى و ظهرت كتابات أدبية تروج لفكرة البورنو بدون توظيف و لكن من أجل اللعب على مبدأ الكتابات الصفراء و عطش الجمهور الحالى لثقافة العباطة المهيمنة فخرجت روايات أحلام محرمة و أبناء الرومانسية لتحدث قدر من الفرقعة المزعومة بغرض ترجمة الحدث إلى أرقام تضاف فى خانة المبيعات و هكذا دواليك و نتيجة للاوضاع الاقتصادية الخائبة و الانتحار السياسى فى انظمتنا العربية و شيخوخة الانظمة و تركيعها أمام الضغوط الغربية فمن الطبيعى أن ينصرف الجمهور عن أفرازات أدبية مرتهنة باوضاع تنحو نحو ثاقفة الأموات ثقافة تأكلها الفئران و لكن من يتابعها لا يعرف أن الفأر أنما يأكل فى رأسه هو قبل أن ان ياكل اوراق اعماله !! و مع ظهور حركة ال[داع الظهورى فى عالم الأدب العربى أمثال محمد المغربى و انتشار سيرته الذاتية الخبز الحافى فلا يمكن أن ندعى أكثر من ذلك أن الأدب العربى يمر بازمة بأكثر مما يوصف به حق الوصف و هو موت الأدب العربى و لكن نعود غلى صحوات أدبية لمرحلة ما بعد موت الثقافة العربية مثل عمل مريد البرغوثى فى كتابه الرائع " رأيت رام الله " و اعمال ابراهيم أصلان و يوسف القعيد و ابراهيم عبد المجيد و فؤاد حداد الشاعر و سيد حجاب و بعض أعمال عبد الرحمن الابنودى الذى أطلق عليه قلم السلطة المتحلل و المهضموين حقهم أمثال أمل دنقل و غيرهم مما لا تسعهم الذاكرة للحصر و القطيعة المعرفية بين جمهور المتلقى و بين جمهور الأدباء نتيجة للغلاء المعيشى و انتهازية الاسعار فى ظل غياب المادة لدى المواطن العربى و تأتى مكتبة الأسرة كخير دليل على تعطش جمهور القراء للمعرفة الأدبية و غيرها من خلال معقولية الاسعار فى ظل أعداد طيبة من سلاسل مكتبة الاسرة المختلفة أذن فنحن بحاجة إلى ترشيد اسعار الكتب و رفع هيكل أجور المواطنين و هو حل خارج عن سيطرة الأدباء و جمهور القراء و تبقى الكرة فى معلب الانظمة العربية المتعفنة و تسويقهم لثقافة العباطة لتعيطل فرص تشغيل الدماغ مما يعنى استفاقة المواطنين العرب على حقيقة الوضع البالى لتلك الاأنظمة الفاشستية النازية التى أكلها الزمن و بال عليها
