من الواضح من هذا الديوان أن البياتي يتشبه بعمر الخيام فالديوان يتناول تجربة البياتي الشخصية والعامة كأن التاريخ يعيد نفسه في دورات ما لا نهائية ، وأذكر على سبيل المثال: لعلها الريح التي تسبق من يأتي ولا يأتي لعل شاعرا يولد أو يموت.

كأن الشاعر الكبير ينعي الوضع المخزي الذي وصلت اليه امتنا العربية وعلى رأسها العراق، فيقول: " بابل تحت خيمة الليل الى الأبد تعوي على أطلاله الذئاب " ما أصدق التعبير.

That Which Comes and Comes Not is the woebegone title of the grim yet very touching booklet of Poetry by Abdul Wahab al-Bayati. Speaking in a penetrating voice which is genuinely modest and entirely his own, the bard is upfront in his despondency and bleak depth of vision. Nonetheless, I couldn't but marvel at al-Bayati's meticulous observations as he tells in apt words of despair the prevailing Arab's lot of death and paralysis in all its failures and melancholy. I choked with sadness at al-Bayati's descriptions of his bad dreams from their beginning to their end. He masterfully embodies each line in metaphors, casting a sharply critical eye over the bitter condition of modern Iraqi (Arab) society.

شعر البياتي في مجمله يتميز ببساطة التعبير وعمق المعنى أما بالنسبة لهذا العمل البديع الذي اختاره المنتدى والذي يتناول فيه الشاعر الكبير الحياة الباطنية لعمر الخيام فأنه يصل بالشعر الحديث الى مرتبة سامية تكاد أن توصف بالتصوف الشعري
