Ibrahim Nagui a Belated Intimate Visit
In this book Samia Mehrez, Professor of Arabic literature in the Department of Arab and Islamic Civilizations, re-visits and re-reads the work of her grandfather, poet and medical doctor, Ibrahim Nagui (1898-1953), one of the Arab World’s most renowned and popular romantic poets. It is a journey of discovery and reconciliation with the grandfather she never met having been born two years after his death. Through a close and critical reading of Nagui’s personal letters, his unpublished memoir, his drafts of poems, and unfinished book projects, Mehrez unpacks many of the myths surrounding Ibrahim Nagui and simultaneously reflects on how he impacted her own career as a literary critic.
This book was featured as book of the month in December 2021 as part of our International and Arab Authors series. To watch the video of this webinar with Samia Mehrez Click Here
