The Scorpion's Whisper
The novel is a fictionalized account of a historical expedition to the mysterious oasis of Kufra. Rose, an Englishwoman, who has lost her loved ones in the First World War, and Hussein, an Egyptian who needs to reconcile his Islamic upbringing with his Western inclinations, embark together on this dangerous adventure. Set in the Sahara in 1920-21 and a royal palace in Alexandria in 1938, it explores the plight of characters grappling with their personal losses from one world war, and preparing for the advent of the next one. It also touches upon areas of cultural intersection and overlap.
