Anti corruption , US foreign policy toward Ukraine
The book examines how the United States utilizes anti-corruption efforts as a tool to reinforce its influence within the global system. The author highlights how the US pioneered this fight through legislation like the FCPA and promoted it via international agreements. While combating corruption is inherently important, the analysis reveals that geopolitical motives are significant drivers. The case of Ukraine demonstrates the selective application of this agenda; allies were supported despite corruption allegations, while the issue was used as a pretext to pressure opponents and even support regime change. The study concludes that anti-corruption, despite its genuine value, can serve as a "smokescreen" for achieving political objectives. This necessitates that countries engaging in such international initiatives critically assess these programs to discern their underlying goals.
