Sonallah Ibrahim's Ice
Venue: Arab World Books Online
Date: June 26, 2025
Join us for a special discussion on Sonallah Ibrahim's novel Ice on Thursday June 26 at 7:00 PM Cairo time.
Dr. Shukri, the protagonist in the author’s novels "Amrikanli" and "French Law," goes back four decades in time to recount his experience in the Soviet Union, where he went to pursue his post graduate studies in the context of an academic exchange between the two countries. There, he continues his journey of self-discovery and exploration of women, revealing the untold secrets of life in the former Soviet Union and the roots of its subsequent collapse.
The book has been described as a panorama of social and political life in Soviet Russia during the Brezhnev era, and also as an unprecedented study of sexual behavior.
The discussion will be conducted in Arabic via Zoom, and moderated by Egyptian novelist Mohamed Tawfik.
