Iraqi born, New Zealander architect and artist Ali Shakir graduated from Baghdad University in 1992. Since leaving Iraq in 2006, Shakir has published articles, essays-in Arabic and English-in several newspapers and literary journals in the Arab World, England, the United States, and New Zealand. He has two published books and is a full member of the New Zealand Society of Authors.
