An Iraqi academic, critic, translator, and media professional, he is considered a prominent figure in Arab literary and critical studies—particularly regarding the Iraqi novel and Arab-Scandinavian cultural exchange. Born in Iraq in 1954, he was educated in Baghdad’s schools and at Al-Mustansiriya University before leaving the country to pursue further studies. He eventually settled in Denmark in the 1990s, where he has been active in translation, educational counseling, and cultural and literary pursuits.
He earned a master’s degree in media and literature in Russia in 1980 and subsequently obtained a doctorate in literature from the Institute of Oriental Studies at the Soviet Academy of Sciences in Moscow in 1984, working as a researcher and university professor immediately after graduation. In Denmark, he continued his academic and cultural career, studying translation at the Copenhagen Business School, completing courses in social work at the College of Social Work, and teaching "Cultural Understanding of Society" within the master’s program at the University of Copenhagen.
He received the 2002 Culture Award in the Danish city of Roskilde and served as an educational consultant for the Roskilde Municipality from 1997 to 2020, alongside his work in translation, research, and literary criticism. He has published numerous studies on short stories and novels and has contributed to fostering cultural exchange between Arabic literature and Scandinavian culture.
