A writer, a vision, a journey: a conversation with Francis Boyle

Venue: Arab World Books Online

Date: February 24, 2024

This event took place on 24 February 2024  You may now watch the conversation with Professor Francis Boyle here:

Through this series of in depth conversations with Arab and international authors, arabworldbooks.com aims to explore the vision, motivation, process, and of course, the outcomes of a writer's journey. These conversations will, hopefully, shed some light on the values and experiences that are common to writers and readers across the world, while taking into account their respective idiosyncrasies and cultural specificities.

We are delighted to feature Professor Francis Boyle in this event.  Francis Boyle is professor of law at the University of Illinois. He is a renowned expert on international law and human rights. In his long career, he has served as legal counsel and adviser to several world leaders. In 1993 he won two Orders by the International Court of Justice for the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina against Yugoslavia to cease and desist from committing all acts of genocide against the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina. This was the first time that a lawyer, had won two such World Court Orders in one case since the World Court was founded in 1921. He also served as legal adviser to Chairman Yasser Arafat and the Palestine Liberation Organization. He started the Divestment/Disinvestment Campaign against Israel in 2000 and at the request of Palestinian Civil Society joined with them in 2005 to form the Palestinian Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) Campaign.

The discussion will be conducted in English and moderated by Egyptian novelist and former ambassador to the United States Mohamed Tawfik.
