Hands Around the Library: Protecting Egypt's Treasured Books
For a moment in time, they were one.
Young and old, Muslim and Christian - Egyptians held hands around their cherished library in Alexandria, protecting it.
It was January 2011.
Together, protestors protected the great library of Alexandria, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. The historic events are captured in this children's book illustrated with dramatic cut-paper collages by Susan L. Roth. The English version was published by Dial Books for Young Readers (Penguin) in the U.S. The Arabic version was published by the Bibliotheca Alexandrina.
