An Affair of Honor in Algiers
Chief Commissioner Muhammad questions the meaning of loyalty to the Dey of Algiers when he takes sides in a conflict between the families of a powerful Turkish shipowner and an Algerian corsair whose exploits at sea have made him a living legend on both shores of the Mediterranean.
In the hills outside the city, a young Turkish girl follows her pet goat into the wood and emerges in the company of the Algerian boy who finds it, prompting a village rumormonger to cry shame and set in motion a bloody ambush and the burning of a country villa. When night falls, the children are still on the run.
Summoned to the palace of the Dey, Muhammad decides that regardless of the threat of execution, he must follow his conscience and continue his efforts to save two innocent children from a certain honor killing.
