Dr. Afaf Toballa also written Affaf Tobbala was born in 1941. She obtained her bachelor degree in French language and literature from the faculty of Arts, University of Cairo. From the same university, she obtained her Masters as well as a PhD degree in media. In 1994 and 1995 she supervised Egyptian satellite broadcasting. She headed Nile Drama TV channel starting from 1996 till 2001 . She directed and wrote scripts for many TV shows. She also worked as artistic producer for some documentaries and short movies that won prestigious awards from the Egyptian Television Festival and the Arabic Radio Union in Tunis.
Dr. Afaf wrote many books for children many of which received international awards.

Her book "The House and the Palm Tree" won first place in the children’s literature category of the Sheikh Zayed Awards.

The book was described as “a sophisticated diversion from ‘mainstream’ children’s literature. It explores the inner worlds of children in a masterful story-telling style, leaving ample room for the young readers to view their surroundings in light of what they read.”
