Mr el-Shobashy exposes the seething hatred of the west and the considerable friction and hard feelings between us and them. However, the obvious facts which the author missed are quite lamentable. Arabic alphabet (just as the Summerian was) is 16 characters only, the remainders are created by adding dots above and below the letters and therefore new letters can be added. Arabic is not limited by the Qur'an. Our tongue is much, much older our than our galam huru thinks. Arabic took over Aramaic (as it took over the Amorite tongue and it in turn did with the Sumerian) civilization and language lock, stock and barrel. Sibawe did not write the grammar for a new language he merely adopted an old one. This is from a school boy tablet over 5000 years old bu-ba-bi, zu-za-zi, na-nu-ni mu-ma-mi etc etc. Such words as ummia (professors), edubba (writers) ugula (philosophers) are Summerian but you have to be an Arab to appreciate their beauty and true meanings. Without the inventiveness and perseverance of the practically orinieted Summerian pundits the intellectual and scientific achievement of civilization would have been impossible. On the other hand the idea that there was a time when all people of the earth had on language and used the same words and that this happy state was brought to an end by an irate deity is cute. title: For Arabic to Survive I agree with the comment of Mr.Riad particularly since it has become inappropriate to talk of English as a unified language. In fact, English is a broad range of different languages spoken by different peoples and cultures. Take for example the englsih spoken in Africa or southeast asia or in the American south, you will find that these are completely different languages with different syntaxes and even different grammatical structures. In fact this premise, is not at all accurate since a large bulk of the engllish language is based either on idioms, or exceptions that do not follow grammatical rules. This is a point that is best demonstrated in English comic movies which often depict how foreigners produce opposite meanings to what they intend to say by making very slight changes in sequence or combinations of words. The basic difference between Arabic and English is not in grammar per se but rather in the tradition in which both languages are taught. On the one hand you have radio and television and their effect on rejuvenating the spoken word.during the periods of civilizational ebb the Arabic language became almost exclusively limited to the written word. But now the technological developments have allowed the spoken word to regain its eminence, thus revitalizing the language. Secondly, the argument he makes, regarding (tashkeel)is one that evolved with the spread of the printing press which carried the written language without its tashkeel, but now with computers it is much easier to use tashkeel selectively whenever needed. This is not to say that the argument for the need to develop and simplify Arabic grammar is totally without merit, simple that it has to be made within the context of today’s problems and requirements. title: for arabic to survive commentsالأستاذ شريف الشوباشي صوت جديد يضاف الى سلسلة الأصوات الاصلاحية التي علت في مجتمعنا على مدي أكثر من قرن من الزمان، لكن للأسف هناك فوى وتيارات نعرفها جميعا تقف بالمرصاد لأي محاولة للتطوير والتجديد title: لتحيا اللغة العربية أهم ما يغفله الحداثيون الجدد أن مأساة مجتمعاتنا تتمثل في أنها إبتعدت عن دينها وليس العكس، وعندما يطالب هؤلاء بإحداث مزيد من الإنفصال ولإنفصام ما بين حياة الناس وتعاليم الدين السماوية فأنهم يعملون على تكريس حالة الضياع التي يعاني منها المجتمع عامة والشباب على وجه الخصوص، وفي هذا الإطار فإننا نرفض محاولات المؤلف وغيره الرامية إلى تعميق الهوة بين المسلمين ولغتهم والتي تهدف في واقع الأمر إلى إبعاد الناس عن القرآن الذي هو هدى للعالمين title: لتحيا اللعة العربية يقوم كتاب الأستاذ شريف الشوباشي على فرضية أن قواعد اللغة العربية معقدة وبالتالى فإن تعلمها يتطلب وقتا طويلا وجهدا كبيرا والخيار الذى يواجه الطالب العربي اذن هو اما اتقان اللغة مع عدم الإلمام بالعلوم الأخرى ام اهمال اللغة والتركيز على العلوم، وبناء على هذه الفرضية يتوصل المؤلف الى مجموعة من النتائج ولاستنتاجات ، ولكن المشكلة فى هذا كله انه لا يحاول اطلاقا أن يثبت فرضيته بل يأخذها مأخذ اليقين، فمثلا لا يأخذ المؤلف في اعتباره احتمال الا تكون المشكلة في قواعد اللغة وإنما فى طرق تعليمها والتى تعتمد على أساليب متخلفة وأنظمة تعليمية لا تتمشى مع مقتضيات العصر. وهو تفسير جائز تماما بالنظر الى تخلف المجتمعات العربية فى المجالات العلمية أيضا، وكذلك بالنظر الى وجود عدد كبير من المثقفين المتخصصين في مجالات علمية والذين يتقنون اللغة العربية اتقانا جيدا في الوقت نفسه. هذا وكنت أتوقع أن يقدم لنا المؤلف مقارنة رقمية بين الوقت المطلوب لتعليم اللغة العربية من جهة وعدد من اللغات الاجنبية مثل الفرنسية والالمانية والصينية واليابانية وحتى العبرية. وهي لغات تتمسك شعوبها بها وتحرص كل الحرص على الحفاظ عليها. title: الشوباشى في قاموس الاعتقادات الخاطئةTHE DICTIONARY OF MISINFORMATION يذكرالكاتب ان الناس تعتقد عن طريق الخطأ ان اللغة الصينية في غاية الصعوبة بسبب قواعدهاويقول الكاتب ان صعوبة القواعد ليس معيارا لصعوبة اللغة،وهكذا اللغة العربية... واظن ان اللغة العربية ستحيا عندما دعاة مخلصين لها title: تحيا اللغة العربية يرجع المؤلف كافة المشاكل الحضارية والثقافية التى تواجه الامة العربية الى صعوبة قواعد اللغة ولايعتمد في كتابه على منهج علمي محكم يعتمد على الدراسة المتانية ويكتفي بالكلام العام الذي هو اقرب الى الثرثرة وفي حين قد يكون بالفعل هناك احتياج الى تبسيط قواعد اللعة العربية فان كتاب الاستاذ الشوباشي لا يعد دفع علمي سليم في هذا الاتجاه انما يعد الكتاب نتاجا لنفس المشكلة الثقافية التى تواجهها مجتمعاتنا بل يبرهن على ان مشكلة قواعد النحو ليست سوى قضية هامشية فالازمة الثقافية التي نعيشها اكبر واشمل كثيرا title: comments I agree that aidy’s novel can be sometimes prettry disturbing, however it makes for compelleing reading and I enjoyed it very much. title: abbas abd commentsمما لا شك فيه أن هذه الرواية الصغيرة تعبر عن فئة من شباب هذه الأيام وأختلف مع الذين يعتبرون أنها تعكس حالة الشباب بصفة عامة وأقلقني بصفة خاصة ميل المؤلف الى تمجيد الممارسات الجنسية غير المنضبطة واعتبار أن السعي وراء الجنس هو الشاغل الأول للشباب title: commentsCongratulations al-aidi and three cheers to arabworldbooks.com. this could very well be the beginning of a new genre in arab literature. title: An Takoon Abbas el-Abd An Takoon Abbas el-Abd (If you were Abbas el-Abd) is a troubled tale of the many alter egos of Ahmad Aidi. Although the author’s command of Arabic is quite sound and the work in hand is largely literary, An Takoon Abbas el-Abd fails to hold the reader’s attention and in part the repetitiveness (although essential to the characters psyche) becomes irritating. I found myself wishing for the speeding up of time and my patience running out. Cairo comes out so unchanging a place that I couldn’t remember many key dates in the life of the characters and the beginning and ending of their affairs. Ahmad Aidi weaves a web of everything that the book falls open at every page and the movement throughout evokes belonging and nationality rooted in another country and in another language.
